about
so , this track was written as a fundraising idea to attempt to help a wonderful person who has been feeding the homeless and helping with food aid to those living in food poverty , through out all the lockdowns we have been under , and doing this from her pub , The Station , that has had to close ..... with that happening many folk would have looked to look after themselves , what with the lack of income , but seemingly not this lady!!! ... so if you would like to chuck a quid in the kitty to help her continue to help those that need it the most then , please if you can , download this track and embrace that warm fuzzy feeling that you are helping out and making a difference!!!
The track started as a solo project , but ended with 3 other brilliant musicians contributing to it .....
The violin track comes from the amazing Athene from the super awesome 3 Daft Monkeys , and its simply stunning ....... next we have my bestie and fellow Simpleton , Smudge , who sat and created the wicked bass line for the track .... and then we have the stunning vocal of the wonderful Jess Silk in there to finish the track .... these were all recorded remotely and then sent to me (the technophobe) to mix .... so i enlisted the talents of the fab Paul Edge from Trench Studio's in Telford to mix the track together for us and he has once again come up with the goods !!!! I'm honestly so thankful to all those guys for giving up their time to help on this xx
so why not download it , its only a quid , and you WILL be helping those that need the help the most
thank you guys
Matt x
lyrics
A BETTER WAY
Well her day starts again , another one there all the same
She walks her kids to school in the rain
Then trudges five miles back again , now soaked down to the skin
Back to the single room that they call home
Where there is just one bed , for them to rest their weary heads
A camping stove for heat and to cook the tea
And it's so hard to carve a living , on the money that she's given
In a word that seems that it is made of stone
And she thinks, she'll go hungry again tonight
It was just a few short months ago , she had the car , the house you know
But he raised his fist's and they just had to go
She thinks , there must be a better way
There must be a fairer way
(chorus)
And while there all asleep
She lie's there and she weeps
Wondering how she'll keep afloat
As the ministers in power look down from their ivory tower
And they tighten up the grip around her throat
She thinks , there must be a better way
There must be a fairer way........ for us
He awakens he's in pain , he's been kicked in again
while he was trying to sleep out on the streets
pulls himself up to his feet and wonders today if he'll eat
And packs his life into his little bag
He throws it on his back , he's taken back to his time in Iraq
Where parts of his mind remain
He couldn't get the help he needed , so he finds himself conceded
To the fact the streets are now his home
And he thinks , What were we fighting for , anyway
He used to have it all , how he used to stand so tall
But folk now won't look him in the eye
Sits with a tear in his eye as people simply pass on by
the veteran , hung out to dry
He thinks , there must be a better way
There must be a fairer way
(chorus)
And while everybody sleeps
He lie's there and he weeps
wondering how he'll keep afloat
As the ministers in power look down from their ivory tower
And they tighten up the grip around his throat
He thinks , there must be a better way
There must be a fairer way ..... for us
So if your stuck out on the streets , or you don't have the means to eat
In a hole in which your stuck
Don't look to the powers that be , because if you live in poverty
you know they just don't give a f#@k
It's the good people of this land , who offer out a helping hand
Because together we know , we shall overcome
And we know , yes there is a better way
Yes there is a fairer way
(chorus)
And while everybody sleeps
They lie there and they weep
Wondering how they'll keep afloat
As the ministers in power look down from their ivory tower
And they tighten up the grip around their throats
we know , that there is a better way
Yes there is a fairer way ...... for us.

This has been a hard year as a social worker I recognise that I am not facing the reality of the saving of lives and I despair at how the government have treated our nhs people. I have been responding to the needs and crisis faced by children and young people in care . Carers with health vulnerability with challenging teens who won’t follow the rules- risks there create anxiety, carers of children who have been abused and traumatised- limited services - songs like this keep me going thanks maureenb
